Course material outline

The trainer will need the following equipment, supplies, and supporting materials. Purchase the Immunization Techniques Course DVD.

Participant packets

Please see the list of resources to put together and give to the trainee. Consider making a packet for each participant with the following items:

  • Agenda
  • Pre-test
  • Utah immunization record
  • Comfort measure take home sheet
  • Immunization site maps pediatric | adult
  • Comforting restraint flyer
  • 2014 Utah immunization timing schedules
  • Skills checklist for pediatric immunization
  • Case scenarios
  • Sample VIS
  • Temperature logs : Celsius | Fahrenheit

Vaccine preparation and administration skills station materials

These materials are necessary. You may have some items in stock; others you may need to purchase.

  • Oranges (or lemons), estimate 1 piece of fruit for every 3-4 participants
  • Vaccine in single dose vials (1 dose/participant)
  • Vaccine in multi-dose vials (1 dose/participant)
  • Vaccine and diluent for reconstitution (1 dose/participant)
  • 1” 23 to 25 gauge needles and syringes for IM injections (1/participant)
  • 5/8” gauge needles and syringes for SC injections (1/participant)
  • Nasal influenza applicator (at least 1/class; trainer can demonstrate if supplies are limited)
  • Oral rotavirus applicator (at least 1/class; trainer can demonstrate if supplies are limited)
  • Alcohol swabs (at least 2/participant)
  • Sharps container
  • Trash cans (1/skills station)
  • Anatomic site poster to display at each clinical skills station:

Suggested materials:

  • Mock doctor’s order
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Bandages
  • Dolls to demonstrate how to hold an infant
  • Trays to transport prepared vaccines
