Vaccine Safety
Vaccine Safety
Almost all vaccines can cause symptoms such as pain, redness or tenderness at the site of injection. Some vaccines may cause more severe side effects than others. While most side effects are not permanent, they can be frightening to parents and cause for questioning their safety.
Whether due to misunderstanding, misinformation or personal beliefs, some choose not to vaccinate. However, choosing to avoid vaccines is not without risk. It is a choice to take a different type of risk–the possibility of suffering serious consequences as a result of contracting a vaccine-preventable disease.
When making a decision regarding vaccination, consider your resources, conduct sound research, rely on facts-not hearsay, and talk to your healthcare provider. As with any drug, vaccines are not without side effects. But considering the risks associated with disease, the benefits of vaccines typically outweigh their risks.
